This 9-month (academic year), tenure-track appointment will grow the integration of irrigation engineering and management across the state. The apportionment is 60% research and 40% teaching. This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The selected candidate will play a key role in research and teaching programs in South-Central and statewide across Nebraska. The research will focus on irrigation and water resources engineering in the context of sustainability, including sustainability of water quantity for irrigation, and impact of irrigation on water quality sustainability (such as nitrates). Potential topics include irrigation systems, new technology for irrigation (including the Irrigation Innovation Consortium), and joint management of irrigation and nutrients. The incumbent will be expected to teach or co-teach undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Irrigation and Drainage Systems Engineering, Advanced Irrigation Engineering, and/or Irrigation Laboratory and Field Course. The incumbent would assist with recruiting and advising undergraduate and graduate students in irrigation. Intellectual contributions to teaching programs would be expected, such as development of course materials, converting courses into a digital format for an online MS program. A strong connection with the irrigation industry will be important for meeting stakeholder needs. The incumbent will be expected to be engaged with irrigation extension and research with other faculty. Besides faculty in BSE, likely partners include the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute, the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, the School of Natural Resources, and the Department of Agricultural Economics.
