Summary of Duties: The
NRT-RWC Program Coordinator (PC) will be responsible for the programmatic and administrative support of the National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) Rivers, Watersheds, Communities (RWC) Program in collaboration with the PI. This position will be the primary point of contact for students, faculty, and outside partners involved with the program, and will coordinate student-centered educational, community-engagement, and career-development activities. The PC will be responsible for working with the RWC leadership team to ensure the program policies and procedures related to student funding and awards, special projects, and program evaluation are implemented.
The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating program promotion both within and outside the WSU. Working with the NRT Director, the PC will monitor budgets, assist with acquiring additional resources and writing reports for the funding agencies. Since the RWC is committed to developing and testing an innovative graduate education model, the PC must be flexible, willing to try new things and change directions as the situation might require. This position reports to the Center for Environmental Research, Education, and Outreach (CEREO) Administrator and the NRT RWC Director.
Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Bachelor's Degree specialization areas include natural science, environmental science, or engineering.
- Background and experience with water resource science broadly defined, data science, and geographic information systems.
- 2 (two) years of experience in project management or program coordination.
- Demonstrated strong project management and time management skills; demonstrated ability to operate independently, prioritize, and accomplish complex initiatives within deadlines. demonstrated ability and willingness to adjust to changing priorities on short notice as well as the ability to manage multiple sub-projects with varying deadlines.
- Demonstrated organizational proficiency and project organization skills. Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable work style, with the demonstrated ability to learn quickly and to work with a variety of topics and people.
- Proven analytic abilities, using problem solving skills to proactively research and resolve questions, discrepancies, and inconsistencies.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain harmonious relationships in a team environment and with a diverse audience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully with stakeholders at all levels throughout a complex, diverse organization. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Adobe Acrobat, and standard web interfaces.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's degree in relevant field of natural science, environmental science, or engineering.
- Working knowledge of the NSF traineeship programs, procedures, and requirements.
- Experience working with WSU administrative systems, WSU policies and procedures.
- Experience with content management system, Photoshop, website, and publishing software (e.g., Wordpress), and data science computing.
- Experience in event planning and execution.
