Under the general direction of the Service Desk Lead, the Technical Writer is responsible for the preparation, editing, coordination, and assembly of complex documentation, templates and standards, internal and external communications, and other documents, as required. The Technical Writer is required to work in a team environment and provide effective solutions to various Digital & Technology requirements in observance of Manitoba Hydro's practices and policies.
Responsibilities:
Acquire, compile, and arrange all electronic and written materials for technical documentation, knowledge base (KB) articles, internal and external communications, and other documents required in accordance with established standards.
Edit all provided materials for spelling, grammar, and standards for clarity of presentation.
Establish and follow writing style guides, such as the Microsoft Writing Style Guide.
Communicate suspected errors and, with technical representatives, make the necessary corrections.
Prepare communication and post IT (Information Technology) Notices & Alerts, send out Banner Broadcast emails to all Service Hub users and prepare and finalize communications for eGrams.
Review and interpret provided materials and arrange appropriate standard wording or graphics for inclusion in technical documents.
Interview individuals and facilitate meetings with technical experts for the purpose of gathering information, reviewing, and refining documentation.
Research, develop and maintain technical documentation for Digital & Technology by working independently or with representatives from all affected groups.
Maintain and update Digital & Technology SharePoint sites, including managing active files and keeping information current.
Qualifications:
Two year diploma in Creative Communications (or in a Communications field from an institute of recognized standing) and a minimum of two years related technical writing experience;
OR
Grade 12 and one year Technical Communications certificate (or in a Communications field from an institute of recognized standing), and three years related technical writing experience.
IT Technical writing experience is considered an asset.
Able to facilitate IT service management, project lifecycle, and business process related discussions with peers and customers.
Skilled with typical Office 365 software, ability to create/edit Visio workflows, identify process bottlenecks, gaps, and potential improvements in document content.
ITIL Foundations v3 or 4 and project lifecycle (waterfall/agile) training is preferred.
Experience creating/editing IT project lifecycle based documentation and/or documentation supporting IT service management related documentation changes for IT engineering, operations, support, and program management.
Demonstrated ability to organize multiple content packages and maintain project delivery dates by rearranging priorities.
Demonstrated technical and business writing ability providing clarity of information.
Demonstrated editing skills including proficiency with spelling, grammar, formatting, punctuation, and sentence structure.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $31.31-$43.31 Hourly, $59,998.64-$82,986.80 Annually.
